Paper (Informal)
The informal paper must include the following, all neatly bound:
1. A title page, just like the formal paper.
2. Two pieces of writing (How my topic is related to government, What I learned), explained below.
3. A bibliography.
4. One or two printed pieces of source material
You must also do a powerpoint presentation, as instructed in class.
How my topic is related to government: Relate your topic to government concepts and knowledge: structure, function, theory, or practice. One page, typed, double-space minimum, but extra length may be needed to cover all aspects applicable to your topic.
What I learned: Conclude with a statement of what you learned -- what researching this topic meant to you, and what you learned about your topic. Include commentary on the process of researching from multiple perspectives. One page, typed, double-space minimum (more is better). In your concluding paragraph, you may reveal your position.
Hand in your informal paper along with one or two good representative samples of source material NEATLY BOUND and TYPED in a professional manner. The bibliography must be of ALL of your sources, MLA format. Order presented: cover page, relation to government, what I learned, bibliography, resource samples. Put in separate sections with clearly marked headings.
Powerpoint
PRESENT your information in a clear, concise manner, with exhibits or examples. Powerpoint is best. Your goal is to teach something about your topic. Posters are insufficient. Do it in about five to ten minutes.

Will we be required to notify you of which type of project we have chosen by a specific time?
(are there any limits on how many people can do each project?)
dpm,
Yes, you will have to notify me. When, I don't know yet. No limits. It's about free choice. My only hope is that you take it seriously.
mr. ferency,
have a question....is there a possibility that we might be able to do just a power point and not do the paper? becuz i kno that that requires less work but as we are going to be getting closer to the end of the semester every teacher is going to be giving essays and papers and it is not a matter of not doing it to be lazy but the amount of work that piles up. and i just was wondering if it would be suitable to just do the power point and would you give us some days in class to work on it becuase i don't have powerpoint on my computer.
sniper,
Sorry, but no. I am giving you a break already by not making you study for the standard multiple choice final exam test. Plus, you have advance notice. You could get the written part done WAY before you even have to start STUDYING for other exams. As for the power point question, you can arrange to use the computer lab in school, again, WAY BEFORE you are pressed for time near the end of the semester. I don't know how I could make it easier for you other than to say, forget the exam.
dear captain, i dont say this to argue with you, or sound like i am trying to be smart, all i was saying is that i kno you are giving me lots of time but i am a procrastinator, and i have a rigorous course of classes with lost of hw that it is just difficult to find time, even in advance, to work on these kinds of things, thats all.
umm this might sound really dumb but...
what do you mean by representative samples?
Is that just like two websites you went to?
sniper,
Sorry I came across a little cross. It was not intended that way. Sometimes the tone doesn't come out quite right.
politicallydense,
Rep samples means copies of articles you researched. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Cap'n, for this power point & informal paper, you say relate it to government concepts and knowledge, and so looking at it from this way, do you think it would better to switch from Global Warming to a more political in nature topic, such as the electoral college?
sparticus,
Global warming is fine. Relate it to the treaty making power of the president. Also, Congress could factor in with their efforts (or lack thereof) to address this issue. Also, public opinion factors in, as well as economic policies. Etc.
Thanks
"topic to government concepts and knowledge: structure, function, theory, or practice"
Just checking but when you say relate to government, do you mean like what they are doing about it, why its controversial IN government?
"when you say relate to government, do you mean like what they are doing about it, why its controversial IN government?"
No, I just mean which part of government would be involved with the issue, and why.
Good stuff shouldnt be too hard. thanks for the relif on the essay and the advance warning i plan to get it done way before exam week and not have to worry about it. all those complainers are haters.
Is the conclusion slide supposed to be an opinion or a wrap up?
hey mr ferency....just posting my first comment.....yay!
